Community Comments FAQs?
Why don’t I see comments on an article?
Community Comments are available only on select articles. If you don’t see a Comments section beneath a story, commenting may not be available or the conversation may have closed.
Do I need to sign in to leave a comment?
Yes. You must be signed in to your PEOPLE account to post a comment or reply to another community member. You can read available comments without posting.
How do I leave a comment?
Open an article that includes Community Comments and scroll to the Comments section beneath the story. Select the comment field, enter your comment, and follow the prompts to post it.
Why isn’t my comment posting?
First, confirm that you are signed in to your PEOPLE account. Comments containing offensive language, personal attacks, advertising, spam, or links/URLs may not be accepted.
If your comment follows our Community Guidelines but still won’t post:
- Refresh the article and try again.
- Sign out of your PEOPLE account and sign back in.
- If you are using the PEOPLE App, make sure it is updated.
- If you are using PEOPLE.com, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies or opening the article in another supported browser.
If the problem continues, email community@people.com. Include the article link, what happens when you try to post, and a screenshot if possible.
Why does my comment say it is being reviewed?
Comments are moderated to help keep conversations welcoming and consistent with our Community Guidelines. A comment may be reviewed before it appears. Submitting a comment does not guarantee that it will be published.
Why was my comment removed or rejected?
Comments may be removed if they contain:
- Offensive language or hate speech
- Personal attacks
- Defamatory statements or misinformation
- Advertising or promotional content
- Links or URLs
- Spam or repetitive content
Comments may be removed without notice. Repeated violations may result in the loss of commenting access. PEOPLE makes final decisions about comment moderation.
Why was I given a random commenting name?
If you already created a commenting profile on PEOPLE.com and use the same email address to sign in to the PEOPLE App, your existing display name should carry over.
If you use a different email address or do not already have a PEOPLE.com commenting profile, you may be assigned a randomly generated display name. This does not mean that someone else has accessed your account.
How do I change my commenting name?
Commenting names cannot currently be changed directly in the PEOPLE App.
To update your name:
- Open PEOPLE.com in a web browser and sign in with the same email address you use in the app.
- Open your profile page by clicking Account Settings.
- Update your commenting name by selecting Edit next to your Display Name and clicking Save.
- Sign out of the PEOPLE App and sign back in to refresh the change.
How do I find replies and conversations I participated in?
When viewing an article, scroll down to the Comments section. Select your user profile icon to open the Community panel. Click My Feed to view active conversations and return to community activity associated with your profile.
How do I mute another user?
Click on the user’s profile or avatar icon next to their comment. Their profile page will open on the right side of the screen. Select the Mute button underneath their post and like counter. To reverse this, click Unmute.
How do I see the people I follow, my followers, or users I muted?
Select your user profile icon and open the Community tab. From there, you can view people who follow you, people you follow, and users you have muted.
Why aren’t comments loading correctly?
Refresh the article and check your internet connection. If you are using the PEOPLE App, close and reopen it and install any available update. If you are using PEOPLE.com, clear your browser’s cache and cookies or try another supported browser.
If the issue affects only one story, email community@people.com and include the article link, your device or browser, and a screenshot of what you see.
Who should I contact for additional help?
For questions or problems involving Community Comments or your commenter account, email community@people.com.
